Caroline Thorington

Biography:

Thorington first learned etching (Radierung) on an Exchange Fellowship to the Akademie der bildende Künst, Munich, Germany. She expanded her knowledge with an MFA and a course at the Tamarind Institute in New Mexico to become a master lithographer. She then taught printmaking at Montgomery College, MD until the turn of the century. At the same time, she worked in her studio making lithographs. She has been a Matrix Visiting artist at the University of Dallas, TX and participated in occasional workshops. Her numerous Read Moreawards, commissions and grants include the Ture Bengtz Memorial Prize and a Maryland Creative Projects Grant for “The Star Series”. Of the many solo exhibitions, ”From the New World” at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC and “Menagerie” at Montpelier Arts Center, Laurel, MD stand out. Her work is included in more than 60 museum and public collections in Europe, Asia, Australia and North and South America.
