Laurel Johannesson is a Canadian artist who studied at the U of Calgary, Canada (MFA), the U of Saskatchewan, Canada (BFA + BA) and the Royal College of Art in London, England. With degree specializations in Printmaking, Digital Media, Drawing, and Painting and a background in Photography and Video, her work often crosses the boundaries between all of these areas. Her sensual, liquid images reference the body and temporality and are dependent on a response to time and place. There is a fragility and a vulnerability to Read More the imagery that hints at the equation between desire and voyeurism. In her recent work she has become is interested in circumstances of precarious limbo. Laurel has been an Artist in Residence at institutions in Iceland, Greece, and France, and is a Fellow of the Bau Institute in Italy. She has twice been a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome, and at Spiazzi Gallery in Venice where she also exhibited her work in a solo exhibition. In addition to Italy, her work has been exhibited in Greece, England, France, India, Iceland, Argentina, Germany, Japan, Chile, Taiwan, the USA, and Canada. Laurel is Associate Professor at the Alberta College of Art + Design.
