Biography:

María José Giraldo Zumaqué (b.1989) is a contemporary artist living and working in Bogotá, Colombia. She majored in Art at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, obtaining her degree in 2012. Her work is composed by bi-dimensional techniques, such as drawing, painting but specially printmaking, mainly drypoint, linocut and woodcut. Since her thesis project she has been exploring the possibilities of self- portrait and the idea of the vulnerability of the human figure to changes, to mutation. Her graphic work has all Read Moreowed her be part of “Grabado Sobre Ruedas” a printmaking large size project of the Universidad de los Andes, and to showcase in diferent countries like Argentina, Portugal and México, in events such as the II International Printmaking Biennial José Guadalupe Posada in Aguascalientes, where she received an award for her creation “Crocodiles”. Currently she alternates her time between her artwork and being and art teacher.
