Walter Jule received degrees in Interior design and printmaking from the University of Washington in Seattle, USA and studied art history in Florence, Italy with the University of Arizona. He helped establish Canada`s first printmaking master`s program at the University of Alberta where he retired as Professor Emeritus in 2006. Jule has exhibited in over three hundred exhibitions in forty-four countries and has won thirteen national and fifteen international awards including at print biennials in Ljubljana; Seoul; Tok Read Moreyo; Bangkok; Tallinn and Portland, USA. Also well known as a book and poster designer, he won the Award of Great Distinction from the Congress of Graphic Designers of Canada for the Print Voice International Journal. He has curated over twenty exhibitions for museums around the world and his work can be found in over sixty collections including at the National Galleries of Canada, New Zealand, and India: National Museum in Warsaw; and Museum of Modern Art, new York. In 2015, he received the SGC International Teaching / Practice Award. Jule is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy and the City of Edmonton, Arts and Culture Hall of Fame.
